SUMMER READING WITH THE MARKET BOOK SAFARI- june 28
Wednesday July 23rd, 2014
The Potsdam Farmers’ Market is hosting a summer-long, free book give-away to young readers called the Market Book Safari. Children are welcomed to visit the Potsdam Farmers’ Market, which runs Saturdays 9 am to 2 pm in Ives Park and “go on safari”. Young market visitors are challenged to find free books hidden at vendor booths. Books will be wrapped in brown paper. Books are for all ages, ranging from early reader level to middle school level. Each book has been registered with BookCrossing.com, a website service that tracks books worldwide. When a child finds a book at the market, they are encouraged to read the book and then leave it somewhere for another reader to find it and read it! Participators are welcome use the free wireless internet service at the Potsdam Public Library to follow where the books go! The books have been generously donated by the Kiwanis and Rotary clubs in Potsdam. The Potsdam Public Library has also collaborated in this project. Sarah Sachs, librarian, has handpicked the collection. “The Market Book Safari is a great way to get kids and their parents to visit market this summer!” says Laura Popielski, market manager. “We look forward to meeting new shoppers and promoting literacy.”
